FAQ
Changing Patterns.
One pivot at a time.
Intensive Therapy Programs are structured to provide extra support. Sometimes individual therapy is not enough to meet your needs. The program requires participation in order to benefit. We understand that individual therapy is an important part of change and that group therapy within an intensive outpatient program can deepen that process. We’ve witnessed how the experiential nature of group therapy helps people understand their POV better because the work happens in the context of interpersonal relationships. Patterns become visible and new ways of relating become possible. In many ways, group becomes a practice field for real life. Active participants generally will:
- Understand themselves on a deeper level
- Gain support of others with shared experiences
- Find resolution to issues and concerns
- Learn new ways to cope
- Improve self-esteem
Intensive Outpatient Program days are broken down into 3 specific groups defined by licensing requirements- process, education, and practical applications groups.
It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you take what you learn in sessions back into your daily life. You can then return to group to get help making needed adjustments to help you pivot.
While there is no set number of days, typically it is most beneficial for people to be in the program for 13-20 days. Each person progresses at their own rate and length of stay in the program will be agreed upon by you and the clinicians. Insurance companies are usually in agreement with the clinicians regarding the length of stay, but in situations where they are not, then a plan will be developed by the clinicians and you to reconcile the difference.
An assessment by a licensed professional at POV PIVOT is necessary prior to beginning the program. You can complete the request for assessment form below or call us at 888-834-9934.
You must be a Texas resident to be able to participate in the program. You will need a secure internet connection, a computer or phone on which to attend sessions, a private place to attend free from distractions of other people, pets, coworkers and other activities. All sessions are highly confidential and each participant must take care to ensure that confidentiality is possible.
We encourage you to continue to work with previously established behavioral health providers. At POV PIVOT we adhere to best practices which include regular communication with outside providers to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Intensive Outpatient Programs are designed for people who need more than the typical individual session once a week. IOP is not meant to replace individual therapy, but rather it is to enhance a person’s therapy experience. The components of an intensive outpatient program- a concentrated amount of time engaged in therapy; the benefits of group therapy; and a time-out from the grind of daily life, all make these types of programs effective.
At POV PIVOT we follow the ethical guidelines of the Texas State Board of Examiners for Professional Counselors which recommends that psychotherapy groups be no larger than 10 participants. The group size will vary from 3-10 participants which will be determined by demand and also by the discretion of the clinicians.
Yes, only licensed clinicians will facilitate sessions.
The curriculum has been carefully planned and developed to include educational and experiential therapies based on psychotherapy best practices and depending on the needs of the group participants at the current time.
It is well established that issues cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor will help determine what’s best for you, and in most cases, a combination of medication and therapy is most effective.
We will help you confirm your benefits or you can contact your insurance company to find out the following:
- What are my mental health benefits and do they cover Intensive Outpatient level of care?
- How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
- Do I have out-of-network benefits?
- Do I need a pre-authorization for this level of care?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Confidentiality is of utmost importance for program participants and the therapists. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that often is not discussed anywhere but in therapy. Any breach of confidentiality by a group member is cause to be removed from the group.
However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:
* Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders requires therapists to report to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.
